Our AQA GCSE English Poetry short course explores the powerful and evocative poem 'Storm on the Island' by Seamus Heaney.

Through a detailed analysis of the poem's language, imagery, and structure, students will gain a deeper appreciation for the ways in which poetry can help us to grapple with the natural world and our place within it. 'Storm on the Island' offers a poignant and thought-provoking meditation on the power and unpredictability of nature, and the ways in which human beings must learn to adapt and survive in the face of its fury.

Through a close reading and analysis of the poem, students will develop their critical thinking and analytical skills, and will emerge from the course with a deeper understanding of the many ways in which poetry can help us to understand and engage with complex social, environmental, and political issues.

With a detailed line analysis and exploration of themes, students will be well-prepared to succeed on their GCSE exams and beyond, and will leave the course with a richer appreciation for the power and beauty of poetic expression.
